Title:  The Winner’s Crime

Author: Marie Rutkoski

Winner's Crime“She’d felt it before, she felt it now: the pull to fall in with him, to fall into him, to lose her sense of self.”

And…

“I don’t mind being a moth. I would probably start eating silk if it meant that I could fly.”

You guys know how much I gushed about the first book in the series, oh and this one, it is actually better! I can’t put into words any better than Robin LaFevers (author of the His Fair Assassin trilogy) who said this: “Brilliant plotting and absolutely gorgeous writing combine to make The Winner’s Curse a standout, but it is the complex, deeply layered characters with their gut-wrenching dilemmas and impossible choices that cracked my heart wide open. It left me breathless and craving more–I don’t know how I will be able to wait for the final book. A truly unforgettable read.”

Oh I so agree Robin!! Waiting for the third and final installment will be absolute torture (though I have 200 glorious pages left to read first).  Everyone, EVERYONE needs to read these books they are… I just have no words. They are perfection.

Anna dresssed in blood

Title:  Anna Dressed in Blood

Author: Kendare Blake

“But hey, at least we’ll have this strange story to tell, love and death and blood and daddy-issues. And holy crap, I’m a psychiatrist’s wet dream.”

And…

I can feel that photo of Anna staring at me from sixty years ago, and I can’t help myself from wanting to protect her, wanting to save her from becoming what she already is.

Book Blurb…

So did his father before him, until he was gruesomely murdered by a ghost he sought to kill. Now, armed with his father’s mysterious and deadly athame, Cas travels the country with his kitchen-witch mother and their spirit-sniffing cat. They follow legends and local lore, destroy the murderous dead, and keep pesky things like the future and friends at bay.

Searching for a ghost the locals call Anna Dressed in Blood, Cas expects the usual: track, hunt, kill. What he finds instead is a girl entangled in curses and rage, a ghost like he’s never faced before. She still wears the dress she wore on the day of her brutal murder in 1958: once white, now stained red and dripping with blood. Since her death, Anna has killed any and every person who has dared to step into the deserted Victorian she used to call home.

Yet she spares Cas’s life.

This book is such a fascinating read, the voice of the main character, Cas, is just so cool, he has such a weird and spooky life.  And the story keeps you on tender hooks the whole time, I really enjoy it!

Daughter of Smoke and Bone

Title:  Daughter of Smoke and Bone

Author: Laini Taylor

“She had been innocent once, a little girl playing with feathers on the floor of a devil’s lair.”

And…

“This was her life: magic and shame and secrets and teeth and a deep, nagging hollow at the center of herself where something was most certainly missing.”

This book is my favourite fantasy in YA. It is amazing, so beautifully written and crafted. Love it. I know its a bit of an oldy now, but it is honestly so good.

Book Blurb…

Around the world, black handprints are appearing on doorways, scorched there by winged strangers who have crept through a slit in the sky.

In a dark and dusty shop, a devil’s supply of human teeth grows dangerously low.

And in the tangled lanes of Prague, a young art student is about to be caught up in a brutal otherwordly war.

Meet Karou. She fills her sketchbooks with monsters that may or may not be real, she’s prone to disappearing on mysterious “errands”, she speaks many languages – not all of them human – and her bright blue hair  out of her head that color. Who is she? That is the question that haunts her, and she’s about to find out.

When beautiful, haunted Akiva fixes fiery eyes on her in an alley in Marrakesh, the result is blood and starlight, secrets unveiled, and a star-crossed love whose roots drink deep of a violent past. But will Karou live to regret learning the truth about herself?

Although I’m not reading this book right now, I frequently pick it up and toss through the pages because it inspires me to write.

Winners Curse

Title:  The Winner’s Curse

Author: Marie Rutkoski

“She reminded herself bitterly that this was what curiosity had bought her: fifty keystones for a singer who refused to sing, a friend who wasn’t her friend, some one who was hers and yet would never be hers.”

And…

“He knew the law of such things: people in brightly lit places cannot see into the dark.”

This book you guys! This. Book. This was my book beginning’s Friday but it’s SO–read through the night–amazing. There is nothing like being only on book one of a trilogy, knowing you have two awesome, amazing book-delicious reads to go. Seriously, if you have not read this, do it. It will so be worth your time.

I don’t know about you guys but I LOVED Half Bad, I’m only a little way through this but the start has been great so hopefully it can stand on its own, and be as good as the first.
