“A keep-you-upThe First Time She Drowned-all-night heart-wrencher that is both beautiful and raw, painful and uplifting. An incredible read.” –Jennifer Niven, NEW YORK TIMES bestselling author of ALL THE BRIGHT PLACES

Cassie O’Malley has spent her whole life trying to keep her head above water—literally and metaphorically. It’s been two-and-a-half years since her mother dumped Cassie in a mental institution against her will for something Cassie claims she didn’t do. Now, at eighteen, Cassie enrolls in college, ready to reclaim her life and enter the world on her own terms.

But as she struggles to find her way forward, the startling truths she uncovers about her own family narrative make it impossible to cut the tethers of a tumultuous past. And when the unhealthy mother-daughter relationship that defined Cassie’s childhood and adolescence threatens to pull her under once again, Cassie must decide: whose version of history is the truth? And more important, whose life must she save?

A bold, literary story about the fragile complexities of mothers and daughters and learning to love oneself, The First Time She Drowned reminds us that we must dive deep into our pasts if we are ever to move forward.

This story sounds heartbreaking, but bold and beautiful, I expect a raw look into the mother/daughter relationship and look forward to reading how Cassie learn’s to stand on her own two feet, to kick against the current, despite everything that is trying to weigh her down. Also 20 per cent of my current WIP is set in a mental hospital, so these books intrigue me.

Waiting on Wednesday… Where Futures End – by Parker Peevyhouse

Where Future Ends

Perfect for fans of innovative storytelling, like Marcus Sedgwick’s The Ghosts of Heaven and David Mitchell’s The Bone Clocks, Where Futures End is a collection of five time-spanning, interconnected novellas that weave a subtly science-fictional web stretching out from the present into the future, presenting eerily plausible possibilities for social media, corporate sponsorship, and humanity, as our world collides with a mysterious alternate universe.

Five teens, five futures. Dylan develops a sixth sense that allows him to glimpse another world. Brixney must escape a debtor colony by finding a way to increase the number of hits on her social media feed so she’ll attract corporate sponsorship. Epony goes “High Concept” and poses as an otherworldly being to recapture her boyfriend’s attention. Reef struggles to survive in a city turned virtual gameboard. And Quinn uncovers the alarming secret that links them all.

These are stories about a world that is destroying  itself, and about the alternate world that might be its savior.  Unless it’s just the opposite.

Wow, this story sounds so completely unique, it has me utterly intrigued, I wonder how the author will weave the five stories together.  What will link them? What does it all mean? I feel like this story will be an amazing blend of unique characters but with the thrill/excitement of sci fi. LOVE me some sci-fi, I hope there is way more of it in the YA space in the future.

Heidi Heilig’s debut tThe Girl From Everywhereeen fantasy sweeps from modern-day New York City to nineteenth-century Hawaii to places of myth and legend.

Sixteen-year-old Nix has sailed across the globe and through centuries aboard her time-traveling father’s ship. But when he gambles with her very existence, it all may be about to end. The Girl from Everywhere, the first of two books, will dazzle readers of Sabaa Tahir, Rae Carson, and Rachel Hartman.

Nix’s life began in Honolulu in 1868. Since then she has traveled to mythic Scandinavia, a land from the tales of One Thousand and One Nights, modern-day New York City, and many more places both real and imagined. As long as he has a map, Nix’s father can sail his ship, The Temptation, to any place, any time. But now he’s uncovered the one map he’s always sought—1868 Honolulu, before Nix’s mother died in childbirth. Nix’s life—her entire existence—is at stake. No one knows what will happen if her father changes the past. It could erase Nix’s future, her dreams, her adventures . . . her connection with the charming Persian thief, Kash, who’s been part of their crew for two years. If Nix helps her father reunite with the love of his life, it will cost her her own.

In The Girl from Everywhere, Heidi Heilig blends fantasy, history, and a modern sensibility with witty, fast-paced dialogue, breathless adventure, and enchanting romance

Wow, this book has it all–adventure, time travel and high stakes if things get changed in the past that impact on the future, OH and a hot Persian thief! GIMME. GIMME. This sounds so good, and I love the eyes in the cover, it took me a while to notice them!

Author: Emily Henry
Release Date: 26 January 2016
The Love that Split the World
Natalie Cleary must risk her future and leap blindly into a vast unknown for the chance to build a new world with the boy she loves.

Natalie’s last summer in her small Kentucky hometown is off to a magical start…until she starts seeing the “wrong things.” They’re just momentary glimpses at first—her front door is red instead of its usual green, there’s a pre-school where the garden store should be. But then her whole town disappears for hours, fading away into rolling hills and grazing buffalo, and Nat knows something isn’t right.

That’s when she gets a visit from the kind but mysterious apparition she calls “Grandmother,” who tells her: “You have three months to save him.” The next night, under the stadium lights of the high school football field, she meets a beautiful boy named Beau, and it’s as if time just stops and nothing exists. Nothing, except Natalie and Beau.

Emily Henry’s stunning debut novel is Friday Night Lights meets The Time Traveler’s Wife, and perfectly captures those bittersweet months after high school, when we dream not only of the future, but of all the roads and paths we’ve left untaken.

How good does this book sound?! Alternative universes where the world’s at stake? I was won over by this blurb, but when I saw the comparison with The Time Traveler’s Wife… gah GIMME this now!! The Time Traveler’s wife was a brilliant, beautiful book, and I’m sure this novel will be the same.
